Campag Ergos with Shimano 7 Speed

Hi,

My winter bike is an old Peugeot with a 14 speed Exage group on downtube shifters. I noticed last year's Raleigh range featured a bike with Shimano mechs and Campag Ergos. How did they manage it? I could have sworn Campag and Shimano indexing on 7 speed was different.

Could it be that Raleigh used a Campag spaced cassette or maybe a freewheel? Or are they using something odd like 8 speed Ergos with a 7 speed Shimano spaced cassette?

I ask because I prefer the smaller hood area on the Ergos to the bulky STIs.

Cheers,

Gareth

My first set of Ergos were eight speed and they worked perfectly with a Shimano 7-speed cassette, but if I remember correctly I had to buy a Campag mech as the Shimano didn't want to know.

Thanks for the good news. I want to change over to a Campag anyway, I just can't afford to do it all at once.

  • Good old Sheldon Brown, I've just found this http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.html and it confirms that Campag 8 speed and Shimano 7 speed are the same spacing at 5mm.

    Lovely.
