Shimano STI chainset compatibilty

Our tandem is currently running with a Campag 10 speed chainset, with the derailleur operated by a friction bar end lever on drop bars. We plan to try out a flat bar setup - the question is; will Shimano MTB kit (say Deore XT shifters and derailluer) interface with the Campag chainset OK?

If not - any pointers towards a decent quality square taper chainset that would work?

A chainset is just a chainset. They are not groupset specific, otherwise the likes of TA and Stronglight would not be in business.

    what joe said

just remember, if you intend to use a triple then you need to match the shifter with the front mech. An MTB shifter won't work a road triple front mech.

The rear is okay though - any mtb shifter will work any road or mtb rear mech, even of a different 'speed'.

Not entirley true, remember sram rear shifters won't work with shimano rear mechs and vice versa due to the different actuation ratios.
