I know many cyclists use M+S home insurance cover as they offer good cover on cycles, both at and away from home.

I just had my renewal premium. Up by over 40% !!!! >:( >:( :

I havent had any claims, I havent changed circumstances, so why the hike?

The reason given by their customer services? I'm paying for everyone elses claims!!! :-?

I've just emailed them and told them to stick it where the sun doesnt shine. :-D

I would suggest that if you use M+S for insurance you look at your renewal premium carefully.

You have been warned

Lesson 1 - NEVER, i repeat NEVER take a reknewal quote on insurance (home, car, boat, whatever...) If you intend to stay with the same company, always go to their website and get a quote as if you were a new customer... I bet its cheaper.

Lesson 2 - Use comparison sites

Lesson 3 - Use Quidco, if you don't know what Quidco is, what planet have you been living on.....

There endeth todays lessons, hope you get a better quote!

Yes gk, but lots of this forum are on M&S because they'll cover bikes and household well and formerly cheaply.

Thats fine mate, in that case, just use part 1 and 3 to get a better deal if you really want to stay with M&S.

Its still useful to do a comparison though to see what the difference is, then its up to the individual to either stick with M&S and pay the extra or leave for someone else and save the cash!

get a quote on comparison sites

phome M&S and tell them to beat it, get a quote number

Call the best results, tell them to beat that, get a quote number

go to M&S and say beat this and i will take the renew. if they beat it take it if they dont go to the best offer from phoning around.

i think the cost has gone up since the flooding though. The floods left all the insurnace companies out of pocket so everyones premiums go up.

Yeah I reckoned the floods were the reason as well, but when did I ever get a reduction in a quiet year? I cant remember one :D

Check out the price of a new M&S quote, via their website.

The same happened to me the renewal was much more than the original policy, yet starting a new policy worked out loads cheaper - I even rang them to ask and they just said that is how it is and wouldn't reduce the price of my renewal  So I just started again on their website. Not good business practise in my eyes, but their policy is good for a house with several bikes.
