Evening all
I want to replace the 2.1 tyres on my Boardman with 2.3's . Am I ok with the standard rims ? Not sure if this is normal practise so though I better ask before parting with me hard earned cash.
Thanks

Normally you should be fine, the tyres will be rounder due to being pinched more, but the main issue is generally frame/fork clearance0

Hi,
Sorry to jump in hijack this thread but I was going to ask a similar question, I've got a specialized hardock sport 2007
http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22093
and I was considering 2.3 tyres to replace my current tyres.
I don't know anything about the rims apart from the description on the above link. Would they support a 2.3 width or would I be best sticking with 2.1?
Cheers.0 -
Yes they would, but again, it's whether you're frame will or not. Also worth bearing in mind that different companies have different interpretations, eg Continental who always seem to have very narrow 2.3 tyres0

Some size up smaller like conti's. Look at your bike, how much clearance do you have currently, and does it already clog completely in the mud.0

Thanks for the replies. I was looking towards continental so I should be fine. I seem to have plenty of clearance with my current 2.1's and I think they seem to measure up quite large for 2.1's anyway.0

Thanks for the rest of the replies
Looks like I better talk to the wife nicely  Conti vertical protections here I come !0 -
I'm currently running 2.35 tyres on 2.1 rims, and I haven't had any problems as yet. I've been doing this for approx. 5 months and everything appears to be fine.
Like the others have said, check the clearance.0 -
rims dont really make a difference,
2.35 tyres fit in the pro frame so you shouldn't have to worry0 -
