Could anyone recommend a bike carrier for a vauxhall zafira that won,t cover rear lights and number plate, also to carry 3-4no of bikes.
Cheers.

I bought a do it yourself tow bar kit from towequipe for £50, they advertise on ebay and then bought a Thule 3 bike carrier that goes on the tow ball. It has a light board indicators etc and as the bikes are at bumper level do not affect fuel consumption and feel safe and secure. The carrier is a 9503 I think again details are on ebay.

Bike rack for the rear would be best, not to keen on 4 bikes on the roof.

Do not recommend one for the roof for a Zafira. I used to put bike on roof but dangererously climbed on the door sills to do so, not good. Then there was the time I was out on the road and stopped at an Asda to get petrol and forgot about the bikes on the roof as I was about to go under the height limit barrier in the car park.... I will be using my carrier this weekend so if you would like a photo as to how it looks email me your details and I will send to you.

I agree, the Thule Ride-On (9403) is an excelent piece of kit for the money given that it includes the light board and electrics, £91 from Towequipe. I have tried roof racks (had scary moments with limited height situations, and difficulty to get the bikes on) and boot mounted ones (unstable, easy to damage the car, also scary!). The Ride-On is a doddle to use. With the towbar to buy as well it is still only a little more expensive than other solutions, but the result is far better.

The rack tilts so the boot is still accessible if you really need to get to it with the bikes on board:

the tilt option does not work for all cars. My Zafira tailgate requires the bikes to be removed to get into the boot.
  • After much deliberation I also went for TowEquipe fitting a towbar for me (at the house!) and at the same time they sold me a 3 bike Thule. Great piece of kit. I rarely use the tilt mech but its nice to know its there (I have a VW passat estate). Haven't got used to swiftly fixing it on yet. I takes me a few minutes tho' I'm sure it possible to do this much quicker. The spannery thingy they supply is fine but probably not the best. Its great to know that whatever speed you are doing, your pride and joy is safe. When I bought a rack to hang off the back several years ago I was warned not to exceed50 mph.

2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)
