Hello

I've got a 2007 Marin Alpine Trail and i'm on the fifth drallieur hanger. I took the bike to Julies cycles in Leicester (Marin specialist) and they suggested i must be fitting them wrong. The one they fitted lasted all of three hours spread across two ride outs. As you'd imagine i'm getting a bit peed. Whats really annoying is the fact that your stranded if you don't have a spare but also the cost and inconvinience of buying new ones.

If you can shed any light on the problem i'd be truly greatful. Better still if you live anywhere near coalville i'll buy you a pint!

Um... What exactly is happening to them? Could you post photos?

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Does it have chain growth through the suspension?

If so, and you are crossing your chain (ie both big rings, which is bad) when the suspension compresses you migh not have enough length. Ask a bike shop for a couple more links and lengthen your chain a bit.

pictures of the bike, spec etc...

Also a better topic heading would have been more appropriate for the tech section.

    But beer always helps.

The way in which they fail is usually the same, the chain starts slipping on the cassette ie. chain wants to keep changing gear, and then on inspection you witness that the hanger is bent and drallieurs are nearing the spokes. try to bend it back and sometimes it will last a little longer sometimes it snaps.

Thanks for that, not sure what you mean by chain growth? I dont cross the big rings. Whats the best way to check the chain is long enough though?ride_whenever

remove the spring or let the air out and see what happens at full compression of the shock while in both big rings!
