How easy is it to change a Truvativ Compact Chainset for a Tiagra Triple Chainset. My Tiagra shifter is ok to keep and I know I will need to change the front mech. Will I also need to have a new chain?

You'll also need a new 'long' rear mech as it will have to be able to take up more chain slack due to the bigger differences in the smallest and largest chainring.

You'll probably need a longer chain, so unless you've got links to put in you'll need a new one.

You'll probably also need a new bottom bracket.

    Thanks for the reply.

If it is going to be a pain in the arse, I'll just have to walk up Hardknott in 2 weeks!!!!

Gives you an excuse then doesn't it ?

You might actually be alright with the front mech, but if the rear one is 'short cage' (which it probably is) you'll need a long cage one, like the man said.

You will also need a longer chain, but you know you should be changing it more often anyway !

BB ? Might get away with it, depends if they're the same type (external bearing ?) between the two chainsets. If not, the Tiagra ones are only £15 or so
