Use a Powerlink/Missing Link and take your chain off if you need to wash stuff down. That way, you'll get the most out of whichever lube you're using on your chain and it won't rust so quickly, either. WD40 and GT85 aren't really very (any?) good for bicycle drivetrains; they'll stop proper lube from adhering to the chain (you don't need to lube sprockets) and attract more trail censored than you'll know what to do with.
Looked around for some reviews and this stuff (PROGOLD PROLINK CHAIN LUBE) seems very well thought of especially in the States. Found some over here and phoned the bike shop. The boy there said its all he uses. It supposed to clean lube and be environmentally friendly. Used some today and low and behold it cleaned out the rubbish and my gear changes are quick and silky smooth. God I feel like I am on an advert but I really am impressed!
Just tryed some white spirits seemed to work quite well
Be careful with white spirit as it can leave a greasy residue on the rotor and pads so stops the brakes working so well. I use Muc-off or a solvent like isopropyl alcohol
