Merckx strada os Vs. Modern steel bike

Hi everyone.

Just looking for advice about the wisdom of purchasing a Merckx strada os f+f over something more modern like the Enigma Elite. I'd say there would be about a £500 saving if I went with the Merckx, but I'm not sure if something like an MX leader would be a better comparison to the Enigma.

    The MX Leader has a reputation for beng really stoutly-built and consequently is no lightweight, so fine if you're a big rider but less so if you fancy something light and responsive. I know nothing about the enigma
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
