Fitting new brake housing to Shimano hoods

Hi - perfectly possible I'm being thick but last night couldn't see how the new brake cable housing I've bought fitted into the Shimano 105 hoods (4 yr old).

The new cables are Shimano Dura ace - I assume I don't need specific ones?

Do I have to take the hoods apart/off the bars?

Many thanks

As with all road bikes the brake cableouter runs under the bar tape so you don't need to do nothing to the levers, other than press the brake lever to get the new inner through the lever into the outer. Don't tape up the bars till you've got the inner wire onto the outer, push the inner through the lever and then put the outer onto the inner. New Bartape is needed unless you can very, very, very, carefully remove the old tape.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Thanks Redvee, but I didn't explain myself very well.

The reason fro the new cable is that the bike previously had a set of top brake levers attached for touring which I want to remove and therefore the cable inner and outer is in two bits. I want to replace this with a single cable and therefore new outer cable cover until it meets the frame guides.

So I've taken off the tape an removerd the inner cable, but lift the hood and the outer cable seems to go into the body of the brake/shift lever. It seems pretty attached but do I just pull it out?

    Thanks

Yes, just pull the outer out, you might have to give it a tug I think the ferrule has got lodged in the lever body. Use the inner to guide the outer when you replace the outer.
