Basically as the subject says i'm wondering what peoples thoughts on 2008 fox float R forks are?
bloomin light it seems but what are the internals like and stiffness?
possibly to replace a left on a cannondale prophet. trail centre riding really. a few bits of really light DH?
thanks

Well, I love mine and find no issues with regard to stiffness - that said, I'm only 11st and I've no experience of 36mm stanchioned and bolt through hubbed forks.

I've done the smallest ladder drop in the CwmCarn freeride park and even though I not so gracefully landed a fraction nose first, they looked after me. I think I'm a pretty handy descender and it's normally that gets out fo shape before the forks do but again, this could be down to my smaller than average build.

Here's a cheeky one - find an orange 5 Pro demo bike and take it out to evaluate the fork.

If I was buying off the peg though, I'd probably get Revs and save the money, or maybe try an Air Pike.

Forgot to mention, what they do have going for them is that they're sickenly smooth once bedded in!!

Well, that's the second time MBR have reviewed an Orange 5 of some sort with the basic Float R on in 6 months - they've loved the fork both times and think it's one of the best trail forks you can buy.

are they as good as the equivalent pikes though, what with 20mm bolt through goodness?

Depends for what riding doesn't it. If you are planning on some light DH, perhaps Pikes would be better, if you have a compatible hub or the inclination to buy a new one.

I got the Float RLC for my new build about a month ago and it is super smooth, but a bit flexi as highlighted in recent reviews.

Before I brought my frame I tested a demo Titus with the Revelation on it and it was definetly stiffer.

I went with the Fox mainly because I have previously preferred Fox to RS, but I would admit that the Revelation is probably the better, dependant on your riding style.

Fox lighter and flexier - pike heavier and stiffer. The thru axle is the main difference. The Revelation does not go to 140mm of travel. I think Fox have stretched this platform to the limit, and only the 08 damping gives it any credibility.

They have a bolt through axle coming for '09 though so maybe it will compete better with the pikes.

I have the Orange 5 AM with the 36'r Talas with adjustable
    fork.

Great fork have only riden this for 8 days in all

100 travel on the ups and 130 when looking for the next buzz
and 160 when you have found the buzz.

Great when climbing as the extra 1 lb on the front keeps
the nose down on the ups, I like this

Just keep trying a larger thing to ride over to see
    how they work.

These have the bolt through Axle which i do find great
and defanatly stiffens things up, but then is a beefy
    fork anyway.

Has zero303 says try a bike with these or one of the
Talas fork you want and go for a ride on your patch.

My fork got the top marks for this size of fork.
No reason for a lock out in my eyes.

Any questions just ask no probs there
Let us know how you get on
