i got hold of what appears to be a late model ppx-10, or cfx-10 super competition. either way, it's a lovely looking bicycle.

my dilemma is this - do i set up as eighties vintage, nuovo record groupset, dt shifters, or do i set it up with a new record stuff. it has 531 pro tubing and a nuovo BB, and one of the weirder seatposts, sort of like a stem.

or - potential sacrilege alert - do i run it as a fixed wheel for a while....

I would build the bike which is going to be most useful to you. Bikes are for riding .

    oh dear.

in that case i might set it up as a fixed gear.

but keep the braze ons in case i want to switch it back later.

What bagpuss said! And I see no reason why fixed is sacriligious, at least as long as don't hack bits off just for the sake of "clean lines". And it is very pretty!

I'd go fixed. You can always add the extra clutter at a later date (although I bet you don't)

    here you go...

nb: check out weird seatpost quill type attachment, i.e no bolt on the frame. strange.
