Hi there,

Currently in the process of building up a frameset with Campag. Looking to mix parts from the Chorus and Centaur groups. Wondering if there will be any Compatibility issues? All components will be from 07 onwards.

Currently looking to spec in the following way.

Chorus
Ergo levers
08 front derailleur
Chain

Centaur
Alloy Ultra tourque chainset (39-53)
Skeleton brakes
Rear derailleur (mid)
cassette (13-29)

Would appreciate your advice/confirmations.

Cheers

Excellent combination - the Chorus Ergo's are a perfect upgrade for the Centaur groupset. The 08 Centaur front mech was rated as being a little better than Chorus in a rtecent C+, because the steel cage plate is a little stiffer and gives a slightly cleaner shift - cheaper too..!

No problems at all. I mix Veloce with Centaur.

There is no Centaur chain, so I've got a Chorus chain on my bike. But If I was buying a chain separately I'd go for one of the KMC chains.

I've just ordered a KMC quick link for my Chorus chain to enable me to take it on and off to clean it.

Interesting point. I've been meaning to buy a KMC or Connex chain for my 08 Centaur groupset, but the only width I've seen is 6.2mm, whereas my 'Ultra-narrow' chain is 5.9mm. Would there be a problem using a 6.2 chain on a set that previously had 5.9?

Plenty of people seem to be running them fine. Gkerr4 has a fancy gold KMC chain on his Centaur equipped bike, and I haven't noticed him mention any problems.

I think Bianchi, aswell, actually ship their campag equipped bikes with KMC chains.

Thanks for that. I've always been a fan of being able to take off, clean and refit a chain. The 9-speed SRAM MTB chains are superb for this. Strange that SRAM don't recommend re-fitting their 10 speed chains.

I'm running a KMC X10-SL on my mostly Record setup, and it works fine.

Thanks for the top replies all.

Just a quick one re the brakes. C+ 07 Christmas issue said something about there being no progressive “feel” with the Centaur front brake even when changing the pads. Is there any difference between the Chorus and Centaur brake set other than the pads? Is it worth spending the extra on the Chorus brakes?

    Cheers

he's right - no problems with the chain - and much easier to put on / take off.

So no problems with the fact the chains are different widths, then? Good news.
