Fitting light brackets

I've just bought a new road bike to cycle to work on, and have just spent the last half hour trying to transfer the light brackets from my old hybrid onto my new road bike. The problem is, the bars on the road bike are fatter than on the hybrid, and the front light bracket isn't big enough to fit. I've tried bodging the reflector bracket to take the light, but no luck.
Any suggestions on how to make it work?

My lights wouldn't fit my Tricross so I bought an extender thing (Minoura Space Grip) - that's fitted to the bars and the lights are fitted to it.0

Thanks. How much did you pay for yours? I've found 3 different versions on Wiggle, in different styles/sizes and prices. The 80mm one is £9.99. Does that sound about right?0

Take Care!
The Minoura Swing Grip is prone to failure. The SpaceGrip is fine.
A neater option is to replace the stem cap.... I bought a system form my LBS.
It is a simple device that replaces the two bolt stem cap with one that has a small rotating bar on the outer face.
Then mount the lights.
It is marked "System EX"<b><i>He that buys land buys many stones.
He that buys flesh buys many bones.
He that buys eggs buys many shells,
But he that buys good beer buys nothing else.</b></i>

Depending on your brand of light, you may find it's cheaper to simply order some replacement brackets that work with OS bars. Many manufacturers do offer alternatives.
Mounts and dimensions can be frustrating. I've recently bought a CatEye Strada computer that can be mounted on either stem or bars, but the stem mounting is not able to cope with the dimensions of the 3T stem. I want it on the stem because it would then be visible at the lower edge of the bar bag map case I use when touring. So, after a lot of thought, I'd like to reconsider. Please, if it's not too late, make it a cheeseburger.

I thought about getting larger mounts for my Lumi's however as only one of my bikes (the Tricross) has oversize bars it would have been a minor annoyance having to switch the mounts whenever I changed what bike I'm going to use.
I think the Minoura Grip Extender I bought was the long one and I think it was £12.99. The long one was useful because if moves the lights far enough ahead of the bars that the light isn't blocked from the side by my hands when I'm riding on the hoods.0
