A lot of these lottery / prize draw / dead relative scams make money by a) trying to pinch useable bits of your identity and b) giving you a UK number to call which forwards to a high rate number out of the country (last I heard the going rate was up to £18 for a minute).

I got one uesterday from 'Microsoft' claiming that I'd 'one' (their language) the Windows XP promotional draw and the Bill Gates himself was going to give me £950,000.

Easiest thing to remember is if you haven't entered you can't win and don't give them ANYTHING.
