Lightweight wheels

I'm thinking of maybe PX'ing my hand built wheels that I just got for my COlago build for a pair of Lightweight wheels but I'm not sure if its worth doing? My current wheels are rr1.1 rims with aerolite spokes on Tune Mig Mags hubs with ceramic bearings.
Is it a worth while swap? Are the lightweights any better?

Yeah they're the ones red. Theres a dude on the ww website that is selling a set of gen 1's for 1k and I wondered if it'd be worth pxing them for my tune builds? Theres also a set of Boras in CW for 925...
Aaarrgh there's always something else isn't there?? Never satisfied...

now there's a man with plenty of dosh to spend! If you have the funds then why not?Cake makes me happy0

A clubmate gave up on a pair - they kept going out of true - having been back to the factory twice, he ended up getting his money back and buying a pair of Boras. There's also new Mavics which look to have the same construction.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Wait until the Lightweight clinchers become available Gats, which i think will be later this year. I will be getting a set in the summer. Lovely!!0

A friend of mine has a pair and he's been riding them regularly for the past 3 years or so and they're still true (and unbelievably light!). However, they are tubs rather than clinchers and should this happen you're looking at an expensive bill.
I'd stick with your current wheels and, should funds allow it in the future, buy a pair of Lightweights for Sunday best.0 -
It might be worth it if you're a first cat or elite rider, but otherwise the risks probably outweigh the benefits. Lightweights have carbon spokes moulded into the overall build and take tubs. If you crash them they're skipware. if you puncture it's an overnight workshop job to get them sorted.
Proper bike porn though and I'd love a pair, although not as my sole pair of wheels!0 -
fair point - for pimping reasons I think they're great but the cost, the maintenance, the hastle of tubs I think I'll stick to my tune build for the time being. I haven't ridden them yet they may be awesome and they only weigh 1400 with the cassette which is that bad.

????????????????
1 minute job - off with the old, and on with the new.
And if you want to use contact glue - them 5 minute job.0 -
Go on then - give us a demo in a minute and stick it on youtube.
We want to see all glue residue removed from the carbon rims, a tack coat of glue applied to both tyre and rim and left to dry, a second coat of glue applied and application of the tub, adjustment and then testing to see if they stuck properly.
A minute? Try half an hour plus the time it takes for the acetone to evaporate and the first coat of glue to dry.0 -
you don't have to change the glue every time
I never do0 -
You're a braver man than me - I'd have been constantly worrying about the things falling off on long downhills. Having said that I've grown out of tubs now. Fine for supported riders, PITA otherwise!0

Forgot bloody tubs and forget having to race to have them, what a load of rubbish. If you want them Gats then you have them mate.
The clinchers are out later this year as I said.0 -
I guess that dude you are talking about would be me then :roll:0
