I lost my crank bolt of my singlespeed commuter. I bought these:

They fit fine but I think that I need some sort of tool to tighten the outer part??
Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need?

Thanks,

I think you only need to tighten them when removing the cranks, the outer ring should screw in and push the cranks off, the tool Gunderson found may do it. For just fitting the bolts I would have thought you only need to hand tighten the outer befor fitting with an allen key (8mm prob).

Gundersens's link is what you need.

They do not need to be very tight. A pair of pointed nose pliers will do them up enough. A proper tool as shown is better though. Make sure you put grease and the washer behind the outer part. To remove crank just undo the Allen bolt and it will pull off. A good bit of kit.

One of these fits the shimano version on ultegra and dura ace octalink chainsets. Make sure that you grease the outer cap before you fit it. Doesn't need to be very tight - see the shimano website for details.

The pins on the Park Tool might be too big - they're designed for traditional BBs and they're too big for captive crank bolts. I use a pair of cir-clip pliers for this job - best to put some Copaslip between the bolt and the retainer and use Loctite on the retainer threads.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Donnie,

I needed a peg spanner when I installed the extracting part on my new chainset. I checked which of the twist drill bits I had fitted the peg holes, I drilled two holes in an ally bar at the correct distance apart, and using two drill bits as the pins and tightened the extracting ring. Of course this is only any good if you have the parts to do this, however it cost me nothing!

Nope, they're a snug fit on Ultegra ones but work fine. The ones shown above look like they have bigger holes again.

Incidentally, I don't trust these one-key release systems and would only use them as a last resort. Too many stories going around of threads stripping off. I always use a proper crank extractor on mine.
