Is the PC991 worth buying over the 971?
My 971 is coming to the end of its life and I'm contemplating upgrading to the 991, hoping that it will be harder wearing and have a greater lifespan - or will I be wasting my money.
I have had this particular chain for about 6 months (1 - 2 off-road rides per week), is that fair wear and tear through the winter months considering all the crap they collect?
The only difference I can see with the 991 is that it's all nickel plated to stop rusting, not a problem for me because I always clean and lube the chain.
Anyone got any opinions?

I think the extra money is just because the chain's lighter than the other one, isn't it?
I don't think there's any difference in durability, but I might be wrong.0 -
There are two 991 - the cross step, and the hollowpin - the former is heavier but more durable.
971 good enough for me though!0 -
You might have to change the cassette depending on how much the chain has stretched, sometimes you get away with it sometimes you don’t. If the new chain slips and jumps you will have to fit a new one.0

I'd stick with the PC9721Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

you might get more life in an xtr/dura ace chain, some report 4000+ miles on them, dunno depends on the legs i guess.0

Cheers guys I'm going to stick with the 971.
Hopefully won't have to change the cassette as the chain is only registering 0.75 on my Park Chain Wear Guide, I believe I can get away with it until its gets to 1.0, then its needs to be replaced.0
