I'm a bus driver, and work some really silly shifts. I cycle 20 miles a day, and I'm trying to get used to cycling one the 6am starts and the 1am finishes.

Actually, when you hear some of the things my colleagues say, I think the reputation bus drivers have for hating cyclists is probably well deserved.

But when you see the stupid things some cyclists do, it also doesn't surprise me that bus drivers think the roads would be a much safer place if cyclists weren't on them. (Not suggesting it's anyone here, but I've had to take risks with other motorist's lives to avoid flattening suicidal cyclists many times.)

If you want to see some scary bus drivers, check out this topic. Some of you will remember Magnatom and his videos, here he's getting some serious threats:

To be honest, I don't think these people are anything like the bus drivers I've encountered. Nearly all I've seen on London roads have been kind, courteous, and careful around so many muppets misbehaving on the roads, including cyclists. I'm very impressed, and I'm sure you're just as good Alibran. Of course it's the few bad egg bus drivers that get all our attention.

Job....Wish I had one. Gives me time to be on the bike/PC etc. Spend some of my time doing as a charity volunteer. Quite enjoy the work, think I'd go stir crazy if I didn't get out of the flat.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

theres alot of IT around! In my experience we tend to be a somewhat lardie bunch, but this thread suggests otherwise.

Happy at the moment though because the summertime commuting starts next week!

Seeing the state of the cars on site as they drove in in the rain this morning reminds me why I have a bike

You'll be supplying Jag and Landrover soon I take it?

Anyway, is it true that if I order £300 of steel, deliveries free within a 10 mile radius?

Another IT guy here :-) Currently work as a Backfill Engineer which basically means I provide cover when our usual site based engineers are away on holiday or give a hand when the work load gets quite high!

The bit I enjoy best about the job, asides from being able to use my bike to get to all but one site (in Woking, I live near the Crystal Palace footie ground!) is that my commute can change from week to week! The biggest change is when I go from commuting to one of our sites in Thames Ditton, which is currently the furthest I have to ride (13.5 miles each way, mainly on cycle network roads so it's rather boring and quiet!) and those in central London. Most are fairly central, but we do have one near Kings Cross - I do have to admit I prefer the ride into the city as I enjoy the excitement of all the traffic!

I do have a theory as to why it's IT leading the way on the "What's your job" thread though......might be to do with the amount of time where stuck in front of a PC and this forum is our only way to keep sane, whilst looking like we're working.........or is that just me

Train Driver, for Gatwick Express. I have worked for other companies though such as Thameslink and Freightliner. I couldn't think of doing anything else now, I love my job. The only downside, and it's not that big a deal really, is the very early starts, which mean I need the car for my commute. If only they ran trains ALL night
I couldn't however face a nine-to-five commute by train every day.

Not only am I a train driver as well but I work for Nat Express as well(East Anglia). I agree I wouldn't change my job for even a big lottery win. Mind you if you think your shifts are bad have a go at mine, earliest start -0405, latest finish-0210 and night shifts as well  I try to commute as much as possible when the weather allows, 19 miles each way, and funnily enough the night shifts are the easiest ones to fit in.

Chartered accountant. Thought it would be a good idea as a result of fundamentally misunderstanding a Python sketch. Now mostly digging out corps that have run out of cash.

When based in the office, 30 mile commute in, but often catching the train back to grab time with the kids. Tends to be sporadic, though, eg just spent the last 7 months alternating Alabama and Spain, which are a bit too far to cycle. Mostly in London for the next few months (hopefully) so more chance to ride.
