Carbon seat post and saddle bag

I have a small saddle bag that hangs from the underneath of the saddle (obviously) with a strap that pulls it tight against my carbon seat post. I've just noticed that it's gradually wearing away at the lacquer covering the carbon where the two meet. I'm guessing this is a bad thing. so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to arrest the damage, and protect the area?

Cheers, Paul

Black insulation tape is my weapon of choice.
I'm not sure if it reacts with the underlying carbon/epoxy but should be fine on top of lacquer (and I use it extensively for cable routing and so far nothing bad has happened).

That was my first thought too, though I was worried that when it inevitably peeled off it would take the lacquer with it. Hmm...

Cut a length of old inner tube and put it under the strap. The tension of the strap should keep it in place, the rubber might even help it grip better, and no worries over glue/lacquer interaction!

iga - thanks for the reply. I'm not sure it will work with the exact way the bag is set up, but I'll give it a try!

it'll be fine to be honest - i wouldimagine that you will only do cosmetic damage with a saddle bag.
