i should be owning a new merc sprinter van next week
the big question is .....how do i store my bikes whilst travelling do i weld some bike racks to the floor or fit some bike racks to the walls or hooks like i use in my shed
what i dont want is my bikes rattling around whilst i drive

Get a couple of front wheel roof rack mounts and bolt them to a plank of wood which you can slide in and out of the van. Bikes sorted and a non-permanant fixture.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Throw a blanket over and use bungee cords, or luggage straps to keep against the side of the van.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

That is what I used in the post above, albeit with a scrap plank of wood and this was 15 years ago.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
A friend has just bought a van and is about to buy one of these. No idea as to whether or not its any good though.

Taking into account that his bike has more dust than miles on it I wont promise a review in the near future. :shock:0 -
I have this one for my van and use it for both MTB and road bikes, works very well but you do have to fix it down or as I've found it "jumps" around.

I had a Sprinter last season, and I had a length of 1" box section running across the van, and bolted to the sides, and covered with pipe lagging.
Road bikes can be just secured by hooking the brake levers over the box section.
MTB's can be secured by a toe strap around the seat post and over the box section.
It works really well, and I went down through France last summer, with this set up, with no problems.0 -
when i had a van which was boarded out i have to say, I just make holes in the appropriate places and held the bikes with bungee cords in two places. Bikes never moved an inch.0

thanks for all replies
some great ideas
ive got a tandem rack which i may "adapt"
also another idea is to weld hooks on the side of the inside of van and hang the bikes vertically by the front wheels
also make a bracket for the back wheel so its secure
a bit like the inside of the guards van which i spotted in italy
when we got the train from ancona to sennegalia a few years ago
