Slight skipping after having new chain fitted

Hi,
After my accident last week I took the bike in for a full service and also had a new chainset, chain, cassette and cables fitted.
Everything's fine but the chain skips every now and then (maybe once every 3-4 miles) and I seem to remember reading something a while ago about it being normal to get a little skipping after having new bits fitted, however I can't remember what it said about correcting it.
What do I need to adjust?
The gears also take a little while to shift down occasionally on the rear derailer, dunno if that's linked or not.

If occaisonally then I'd go with a stiff link in the chain but stiff links are usually more frequent than 3-4 miles.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Don't think it's a stiff link. I'm wondering if it's something as simple as tightening the rear derailer tension by 1/2 a turn?0

If you stand behind the bike with the mech at eye level you should be able to see how well in line the jockey wheel is with the rings on the cassette, chances are it is slightly too far across one way or the other and it is trying to shift up or down every few revolutions when it catches. Adjust the knurled screw through which the cable goes as it enters the mech, until the chain/jockey wheel appears to line up, 1/4 to half turn may do it.0

It sounds as though your new cable has bedded in a bit and now needs adjusting. Put the bike the second or third smallest cog and while turning the pedals adjust the cable adjuster on the rear mech anti clockwise until the chain just starts to rub on the next cog. Then back it off until it just clears. Bike stand or upend bike for this.0

could be cable stretch....when the bike isn't going to be used-at night for example, leave it in the lowest gear (biggest sprocket)-I know this goes against the grain in the derailleur spring is stretched...but it is just for a night“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best..."
