From what i have seen the GPS devices with base maps seem to have ordinance survey maps or similar.

If i were to upgrade from my Garmin 205 i would require maps with the detail of the London A-Z.

    Does this exist???

so thats built in to the 705? no need to buy any other maps of GB?

    Note - I believe......

These things change so check the specs...
The base map built into the 705 is said to be poor. You will need to buy one to cover the area in which you intend to cycle. For UK this means either the Topo GB or the City Navigator. Both have London roads as per the A-Z, and will navigate you accordingly.

Doesn't the HR come BOG standard with the 705, and speed/cadence is the extra?

I have one on back order from BT, with speed/cadence for 250 quid. Maps to follow once I suss it out.

PS, by speed I mean speed in addition to satellite. Would be peeved to find my GPS speed fails in a black spot halfway up a climb in the Dolomites.

By the way, do you mean paid or paying :?:

I thought there are still delays in this being released, last I heard mid April.

Whilst I have one on backorder, I'm closely monitoring prices and prepared to cancel at a better price, as they are slowly coming down now in the lead up to release.

Just been for a run (thats right I'm one of those odd tri people) with my Nokia 95 and the free sportstracker app.

Turn it on, bung it in a pocket, and when you're finished you can upload to Google Earth or whatever. Fantastic stuff - gives speed and altitude - ok maybe not so hot if you want to know where to go, but as a record - its brilliant.

cougie - Have you got the map display working in SportTracker? I downloaded the UK map and loaded it onto the phone, it shows up fine in the Maps application, but in SportTracker it just gives a blank screen. Any ideas?

Sorry not been able to get the maps showing on sports tracker. Altho I think you can just turn on the maps facility and tracker runs in the background ? Not tried it tho.

Did use it on the bike yesterday - first session crashed, but then turned it on for the way back from the cafe. (honestly - I dont normally stop, but it was snowing).

Tracks the route pretty well - you can see that its cut corners a few times when the signal hasnt been recorded 100% - but its pretty good stuff. Very gadgety.

Garmin 305 seems to be OK, from the small time I've played with one.

How much of a nightmare is the nokia N95 to run or cycle with as the thing looks like a early 90's brick?

Aside for the original poster routes from Oxford can be found here:

eh - the N95 is slightly larger than my old n73 - but its no bother to put into a pocket.

Its narrower than a credit card, about a cm longer than it and prob about 15mm thick ?

That's what I was planning to do if I can't get it working. Just a shame that that feature doesn't work (you can tell it's supposed to because the map screen has zoom options), as it would make a really great integrated system. Hopefully it will be fixed in a future update.
