I was wondering if anybody knows if i can buy and fit a new cassette with a larger big cog (sorry about the terminology) to help me climb a bit easier. Struggling up steep climbs and need to spin up rather than power up the climbs.
I am ridng a bianchi xenon 9 speed.

You need to specify what size cassette you are using at present.0

dont really know, it was the one that came with the bike, so i think it will be the standard size.0

whats the bike?
If you clean the cassette up - the number of teeth will be imprinted on the outside facing side of each cog somewhere - there are an awful lot of common sizes - generally, you need to find the size of the smallest and the biggest cog on the cassette - and cassettes are specified in this way - i..e 12-25, 12-23, 13-26 etc..
let us know what size is on the bike and we can look at what campag and others can provide to make life easier.
while you are at it - look at the number of teeth on your front chainrings - if this is 53/39 (i.e. 53 teeth on the big (outer) chainring and 39 on the little one) then fitting a 'compact' chainset with 50 / 34 might be a better way to go..0 -
cant check at present, but i belive that it is a 12-25 rear and a compact 50-34 front, i have just checked the spec on the web as to what was standard when sold, and i hav't changed anything.0

ah ok - you can go to a 13-26 to get the 1-tooth extra on the rear - but beware that the 13 might cause chain fouling issues as it is quite large.
you can go to 13-29 which will make a big difference - but you would need to change the rear mech to a 'long cage' model to deal with the gear range0 -
Campag don't do a nine speed cassette with 12 - 25 sprockets. If you have a 12 it will amost certainly be a 23 large sprocket, a 13 small sprocket will have either a 23 or 26 large.
You need to count the teeth on the sprockets or read the figures on them.0 -
will i need to fit campag or can any cassette do0

can i fit a replacement large sproket either a 29 or 30 just seen a marchisio aviotek intermediate on Parkers web site seems cheaper than a new rear cassette and a rear mech long case as well0

Hi, you should be able to use a 13 - 28 9 speed cassette. I've used one with a short cage rear mech without problems as long as I wasn't in the 50 on the front and the 28 at the rear, and I know other people who've used similar combinations without problems. That may be the cheapest way to go about things. Campag apparently advise a medium cage rear mech with anything more than a 26 at the back.
Hope this helps.
