Brake caliper help!!

I am currently building up my own bike hence the number of postings. Can anyone help with this one? I have purchased a pair of new Bontrager Speed Limit brake calipers. The back caliper fits the frame fine but when I try and fit the front caliper to my Reynolds Ouzo Pro forks, the screw length isn't long enough for the screw housing to attach to from the other side.

Am I doing something stupid here? Before anyone asks, I have fitted the correct caliper to the back! I am not sure what the solution is other than trying to find a longer screw housing which I am not sure exists!

Has anyone else recently bought and fitted the same brake calipers? Is the problem I have with the calipers or the fork? Any help would be much appreciated.

its not the caliper - for some thick fork crowns you need a longer bolt-bit- the (usually) chromed internally threaded bit which accept and allen key to tighten it - they don;t come with the calipers and no-one tells you about this till you find out as you have!

ask at a local bike shop - take the one you have with you and see if they have any longer ones
  • Hi there.

Did you buy the forks new? The back part of the brake bolt should have come with them, as it is usually specific to the fork. Check in the box if you've still got it...

Hopefully you are not as daft as I am, but it might be worth checking what you have got already as brakes usually come with one long and one short bolt-bit. I'd check you haven't used the caliper with the longer bolt or the longer bolt-bit on the back, both of these are to be used at the front. Took me an hour to work that one out last week!
