12 dammit! Why would you punish yourself with a train ride?

You know it makes sense. But then, I've only got seven miles to do...

When I finished work at 9pm, I did start wishing I'd brought some extra layers, but after the first couple of miles I was nicely warmed up.

I'm still in shorts - and it's very chilly out there!

Mind you I think it's because I can't bring myself to walk into a cycle shop and ask about tights!

I only do it once a week...I spend the rest of it warming up looking enviously at cyclists out of the train if I'm in the office.

But as my colleague once explained about how he gets out of a nice warm bed "once you're on your way, have you ever regretted cycling into work?" And truthfully I can't say I have :0)

Now when ever I'm in doubt I hear his words and just go for it :)

well I did cycle home last nigt and it fine bit chilly but then I am a southern softy and work in an office all day.
Done the 12 miles in the this morning as well not sure about tonight as its quite windy and will be in my face all the way home but clocking up the miles this week already on 62 miles for the week so not bad.
Dont think I will ever lose weight though as I just eat more !!!

weight loss is a weird thing with cycling I started cycling last spring, and in the first few months lost nearly a stone, then over winter (no not christmas) I put back on a stone, now heading for spring Ive lost half a stone again, no idea how or why dont notice big changes in exercise or diet...

I think my weight is far more seasonal I put it on over winter and lose it in summer.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN. 3/4 length shorts and snowboard socks works for me in winter though

you will... your muscles will do their thing at first after that the fat will come off...

if it isn't cycle faster and think about what you eat when you need energy unlike me last night I was shattered once I got home, a completely drained feeling so I ate some chocolate then cookies... yum

Of course what Ive forgotten here is that weight may not change but fat \ muscle ratio does :D my legs have gained these bizarre slabs of square muscle on their sides, that has to weigh something, and the spare tyre seens to be a sporty low profile one these days - enough to look completely flat in bib tights.

The only thing that kept me peddling into the wind like good 'un this morning was the thought that it will be behind me on the way home...fingers Xed :0)

As for the eating, just eat more "good" stuff, dried fruit, bananas, porridge etc...Having said that I'm off for ham, egg chips and beans for lunch!!! (do as I say, not as I do)

-3C when I left home at 5.35am. Chilly for the first couple of miles but after that no problem. However when I got to work an hour later my feet were pretty cold and both big toes were white when I took my shoes off to go in the shower. Lovely now, blue sky and sunshine - looking forward to the journey home at 4.30 :)

Well a stone sounds like a large variable, but there is an evolutionary theory that says we store more fat over the winter to get us through the lean times of our caveman days.

If you are only measuring weight, there could also be some muscle gain there (but muscle is added slowly so unlikely to account for a stone 'over winter').

Reminds me of the time, last year, when i went for a 1st MTB ride with a couple of guys from the local cycle club. I'm in 3/4 baggies, they're in lycra shorts.

I'd done the route a 2-3 weeks before, all was great then.

In the meantime the nettles had grown from 6" to rib height, horrible new growth stingers! You could tell where the path was, just you couldn't see the path itself.

End of the ride I had plenty of stings round my ankles. They were that powerful they definitely disturbed my sleep that night.

Hate to think what the other 2 guys were like. They stopped the ride 3 times when they saw dock leaves!
