calling all pace rc 303 owners and owners riding buddies, cycle mechanics shop staff ect...
anyone to do with pace frames be it rider or retailer..
ok enough babble..
i set my heart on a pace rc 305 frame but upon research i read a few polls saying peple had had their 303 frames crack at the welds (seems to around the seat post area) yesterday i wnet to les lakes to view a few bikes pace being one of them (now they didnt have 305 but had the 303 in, i was talking to a member of staff there who also told me they had -had a few frames returned (under warrenty) for the welds cracking on the seat post area.
so my question is how common is this on the pace frames and is it only the 303 that suffers from this weekness (did they sort it on the new rc 505)
i would like to find out before parting with £1500 for a bike that may spend more time in the shop than on the trail...
so if anyone out there can help.. i did run a search but didnt come up with anything other than reviews.. thanks...
may be i will just get the whyte 905.

try the singletraction forum you may find some people on there who ride pace0

I'd steer clear if the bike shop selling you the frame has admitted having several frames returned under warranty.0

thats what i want to find out,
the guy at les lakes said they had a few pace rc303 frames returned with this problem.

The only reason the 303 cracked is that people are using to long a seat post with them, to combat this the 305 has more bracing around this area.
Being fair any frame will have issues if you buy one two sizes to small then use a seat post thats 3 feet long and don't have enough of it in the seat tube.
I did a lot of research about this before I bought my 405 and emailed several owners who'd had the issue and everyone was running a very long seat post..........Rikk(http://www.rcphotographic.co.uk)0 -
Great when someone comes along with just the answer you're looking for, isn't it?0

my mate had a rc303 that cracked near the headset after 2 weeks but that didnt stop me buying one0 -
These threads always make me laugh, I bet you could find a bad report for pretty much every bike frame or component on the market.
Just because some bloke in the shop says they have had 3 returned dosn't mean they are a bad frame, you dont know what circumstances they failed under the rider could of been 30 stone and using it for downhill.
If you like it, buy it. It will have a warranty so if it breaks take it back.
P.S. - Morning everyone, can you tell im glad to be at work again?"Didn't hurt"0 -
Old thread but thought i would add RC303 frame cracking at the seattube brace weld isnt a myth, mines just gone and found others a few others including here
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/t ... st-1419063
as far as i can tell the RC305 is the same design in this area, (doesnt mean the material/weld etc isnt any better though)
Lovely frame, replacement now needed0 -
My 305 just gone broke same place after 10 months light use waiting on 325.5 . Seatpost tube config changed drastically are they admitting faliure on 303 and 305 bad design?PACE RC325.5 1x9

Not had any problems with mine and I use it heavily. I would have thought that the extra bracing should have sorted it out (which creates that horrible routing problem for the cables and brake hose but it looks good when its done).
Overall its a cracking bike!0 -
Wow how times have changed, pace bikes were renowned for being faultless and indestructible, is pace still owned by Adrian Carter?? or did it go along with the Fork side of the business??
Shame on you pace :twisted:I'm not old I'm Retro0
