Which tub tape do use those of you with Carbon fibre rims and have you had any problems with it?

Thanks

Don't! It sounds easy but wait until the day when you puncture or want to replace the tub. The tape leaves a mess on the rim which is hard to clean up but you have to remove it otherwise the next time you use more tape/ or glue, the residue from the tape comes off. So you will save time on installing the tub with tape but removal is a lot more time consuming, it's a false economy.

Use glue and get the right one, eg Vittoria for their tubs, Conti for Conti etc.

I used tub tape once then I did a long descent in 30 degree heat and at the bottom of the hill the tub was squirming about on the rim. Very scary.

    3 layers of glue now!

I use Jantex. No problems using it and it comes off without any issues when you need to remove the tyre.

Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.

Thanks for the replies. I have some Conti rim cement so will use this with the Vittoria's Corsa CX tubs I have. As this is the first time I've used tubs with CF rims - can I use white spirit to clean the rims before applying the glue or would acetone be better???

I only use tubs on indoor track, cost tooo much to replace when they puncture.
For track I use conti cement and boy does it stick. I took 30 minutes to remove a tub recently to replace a spoke, and also got several blisters on my thumbs trying to roll it off the rim :(

I call this "reassuringly hard tub removal"

    Nathan, this might help

They recommend acetone. I've heard petrol is good too but you must get rid of any greasy residue whatever you use.

Acetone it is then. Anyone know where I can get this locally in the UK??? Have looked on Halfords website and it doesn't show on there.

NO. STOP. The Conti glue has issues with the Vittoria tubs, just as Vittoria Mastik 1 attacks the Conti tubs cotton base, causing the base to come away from the body of the tub. Use Vittoria Mastik 1 for your CX tubs.

I know this is an old thread but boots sell it. You have to ask at the counter where the drugs are. £1:49 a bottle.

Never had problems with Conti glue on Vittoria CX'x but I know Mastic will take the basetape of a Conti tub.
If using new Vittoria tubs remember to calender the latex off the basetape, use a rough metal file and pick of the resulting blobs of latex. Much stronger bond when using carbon rims.

Tufo Extreme - it's a lot stickier than the Jantex stuff and doesn't leave a mess when you peel it off - but you can still get your tyre off without breaking your fingers. I'd avoid using any hydrocarbon solvents on carbon fibre.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I use glue (lots of it) on my race wheels as it's been shown to be faster(have a search on www.biketechreview.com) than tape and I feel it's a bit more secure. However as Welshman as said it's a bit.. to get off so I use jantex tape on trainning wheels as it's much more convenient i.e. easier to put on and take off.
