I have no cycling bird collision stories, but I was riding my motorbike at about 70mph on a country lane, followed by a mate on his bike. A bird flew towards the me, straight into my glove. The glove had carbon/kevlar knuckle re-inforcements, and my mate said the bird "exploded" fairly dramaticaly. I didn't really know much about it due to the protection on the gloves, but there was a hell of a mess allup the arm of my leathers. It was pretty grim.

Which reminds me, What do you do if a bird craps on your head?

...... Don't ask her out again

    Unless you're in to that....

Years ago "when I were a lad" I ran over a duck with my best sprints. The duck was intertwined in the spokes like a whicker basket. Yum yum, sunday lunch, I thought to myself. However, when I extracated the fowl from the wheel, it just shrigged its feathers and waddled off. Fortunately no damage to the wheel either.

Last year We were on a club run in the wilds of Aberdeenshire, about 20 of us. Two deer ran out from the left side of the road, straight through the bunch. Unfortunately for us, there was a deer fence on the other side of the road so the buggers ran straight back again for a second go. Result was a few scrapes, two smashed wheels and half the bunch on the deck. Fortunately I escaped due to being at the back of the bunch, as usual.
I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks

I might have ran over a squashed dead bird on the road once or twice.

In the Yair Forest just near Galashiels, there are two buzzards which protect their nests really well. Its always at the same section of trail, and at least one Buzzard will continually swoop on whoever is there unitl you clear the section!

We reckon it picked on one of the boys del, cos he is the smallest. Luckily he was all clipped in so the weight of his bike stopped it having off with him! It literally swooped down and grabbed his backpack!

Awesome watching that happening in front of you let me tell you...especially when the birds swoop along the singletrack!
Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.
