Slightly stupid Stumpjumper design

After a great ride yesterday, it became obvious that I need to adjust my saddle height on the move more often so I fall off less on downhills.
Everyone else (about a dozen riders from Cornwall MTB club) had a QR seatpost - except me.
So I went into my LBS today and asked for one - but it's a "Specialized only" fit and so if I do want a quick release seatpost, I need to (or they can do it) drill the thread out to get one to fit.
Yet the Rockhopper and Hardrock come with QR seatposts!!
Is this weight saving in the extreme or just a rather silly oversight?!
Sure even XC ninjas need to adjust their saddle heights?!

I had the "only rider without a QR problem" so popped to the LBS at lunch and got myself a new one. Fortunatly for me I can just grab one and stick it stright on.
Seems really stupid that they would to that TBH, you would hope specalized would understand that almost all riders will see someting and think "hmm I wonder if I can ride that... better slip the seat down"Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)
Merlin single malt fixie (Commuter/winter/training)
Trek superfly 7 (Summer XC)

Nice one Nick - you know more than my LBS!
Thanks for checking.
I think mine is actually 7050 hard annodized alloy collar w/ QR, 34.9mm clamp ID, black
Now to try and find a QR version...0 -
So, errrrmmm - would the 34.9mm version of this do the trick then? Not replaced a seatpost clamp before!

yes but i would not both with the hope ones. people tend to have problems with slipping seat posts."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Any recommendations?
Not on a tight budget so would rather get a decent one.
Hopes are the only ones I can find in 34.9mm.0 -
i had a hope qr on my old frame and was very good, did exactly what i needed it too! if you have a look on ebaythere are a couple of shops tht do them quite cheaply! i looked at pimping my bike for a while then decided apon the 'it aint broke' method!!
dont worry though matt, i dont have a seat qr! just hang your #rse off the back of the saddle!

Timmo - LOL! Maybe I should give that a go or maybe I should just bring an allen key.
Not really after anything trick looking, just something that works. And if it weighs a gram more than my current one, I don't care.
But that Hope one does look quite cool... 8)
Edit - cheers for the links - they are damn cheap really!0 -
Bought one from that top link - hope it works!
