Hi all,

I know that you get this all the time (I've looked back at several topics) but I am considering the following bikes. Does anyone have a preference or recommendation?

I am going to be riding the C2C in September and am currently training on an old MTB but want something a bit more up to date. Once the C2C is complete I intend to carry on using the bike and hopefully become a bit more adventurous!!!!!

Scott Scale 80
Scot Aspect 45
Trek 4500

Thanks in advance

All decent machines - it will come down to what feels best - have a short test ride, or at least sit on them.

    Cheers,

I have sat on all of them and I guess the next step is to try and wangle a ride on them if I can.

I have been told that the frame on the Scale is better/ lighter but the components (apart from the brakes) are better than the other 2. Would it be worth paying the extra £50 for the Scale then upgrading the brakes in the future or stciking with one of the others?

Possibly - are the wheels disc ready? I know they are on the Trek - this is one of my favourite bikes at 400 quid, and got a top review im the mags.

The Aspect is less 'xc' than the other too.

I'm not sure tbh. The guy in the shop said that you can put disks on in the future but I didn't notice whether any other work was required first.

The guy who showed me the Trek made a big point about it being disk ready.

I notice that you come from Chapeltown. Could you recommend any bike shops in the area?

I work round the corner from Meadowhall (live closer to Hull though).

JE James is worth visiting: got a shop on Bramall Lane, and one in Rotherham
