Clicking from rear wheel Grrrrrrrr.
About a month ago I replaced the free hub and rear wheel bearings in my commuter. It is an old 7 speed XT hub so the direct replacement free hub was no longer available. I replaced it with a newer free hub but as XT now runs with 9 speeds I had to move down the Shimano range and fit a cheaper free hub and small spacer between free hub and drive side spokes.
It is the first time I have replaced a free hub and bearings so I was quite chuffed when I had it all back together and shifting well. I took it out for a spin and all was well.
However about a day or two after the replacement I started getting a clicking from the back wheel (I think thats where its coming from). This only occurs when I am on the bike, when there is no weight on the bike it doesn't click. It clicks once every wheel revolution. It clicks whether I am pedaling or not (so I have discounted the freehub pawls). I have checked the wheel and there is a very very small amount of play in the bearings as the rear wheel moves very slightly when moved side to side (way less than a mm) and the cassette has very very slight plat in it. The rear spokes aren't particulary tight either but I don't want to start tightening them if they aren't the problem.
I am wondering if it could be the bearings need tightening, spokes need tightening or perhaps hub is goosed (I hope not).
Any ideas? :?:

Is there any grease coming out of the hub? You might just need to put extra grease in it.0
