I'm thinking of replacing my shimano M760 xt chainset with a shimano XT M771 because of its integrated chainring but some LBS say the 771 is only suitable for hybrid bikes and i should go for the 770
Is this any way true ? Shall i go for the 770 instead of the 771?

Not sure they know what they are talking about. The difference between the two is the size of the chain rings, and the composite middle ring on the 770.
770 = 44, 32, 22
771 = 48, 36, 260 -
If you want bigger ratios, then the 771 will be fine. But you will need a new (and longer) chain, and front mech.0

It needs to have a 48t max chainring capacity.0
