  • It is a bike owner / upgraders perogative to assemble at least a bike or twos worth of bits that have either worn out, been swapped out or have been bought and never fitted. I myself can sympathise with you although I must admit I tend to e-bay the never going to use but still in good nick stuff to make way for the never going to use and worn out stuff!!!

I'm in need of a spent tube but unfortunately threw mine away. Regret it now. Keep it all I say :)

Ive just put an old tube from my road bike into the pile. I plan to turn it into a new chain stay protecter next week.

I have an old stem, a set of mech disk brakes, a busted mech disc brake, a bag full of reflectors and other bits laying about atm.

Building a bike right now using a Diamondback frame from a bike i never rode, SRAM gripshifts & SRAM 5.0 rear mech from an old Marin I bought for the wife (that she never rode) and stock finishing kit from Kona.

Also have a similar amount of ruined & rusted wheels, levers, punctured inner tubes, tyres with ripped sidewalls, stems & bars that I'm never going to use for anything.

I have the same disease matey - can't throw things away

Have to agree with this, I have an entire section of the spare bedroom dedicated to old parts...

I even managed to build this for my brother almost entirely from spare parts -

  • Same here, got bits of everything everywhere (including a box full of bits that I will remember to send to teacherman  ).
I've got things still unopened in the packet,I've got a complete set of Hayes HFX 9 without any rotor wear that I simply can't bear to get rid of 'just in case',even though they're just going to sit and rot in the bike box.
Valve caps, bar plugs, spacers, used brake pads,V brake pads (!),old cable outer,HS33 pads, cassettes, chains, old cables, about 37 puncture repair kits dating back to '97,obsolete tools,oh and innertubes...lots of innertubes

I did finally throw away a pair of 9 year old tyres the other day though :lol:

  • Best plan is to spend about 30 minutes with a MIG welder, and about 3 hours with a thesaurus. Build a random pile out of the bits, then think of some ridiculously pompous arrogant and bizarre name for your creation. Somethng like "Bike/Life/Bike Eternal" or similar, then just sell it to the Tate Modern or enter it with the rest of the crap in a modern art competition.

You'll win thousands of pounds, and can thne buy any 3 bikes you choose plus have plenty left over to scrounge around rubbish heaps to build your next pile of crap/modden art installation!
