Help with a new bike

I am currently looking at getting a new bike in the £500 - £600 range and have read as many of the comments and reviews on the forums as possible and from these are leaning towards either the Avalanche 1D or Rockhopper Disc V.
However while trawling the LBSs have seen the following 2 bikes which I can not seem to find any reviews on.
Cannondale F5 Disc

Merida Matts TFS 350-Trail-D

The catalogue the LBS gave for the Merida states it comes with Rock Sox Tora 302 U-Turn 85-130mm Fork
I was wondering if any of you knowlegable people had come into contact with these bikes and had any views on how they stack up against the Avalanche and Rockhopper. My main concern with the Merida is the standard of the accompanying spec.
I am currently awaiting test rides on these two at the bike shops. Cheers for your help.
