Hi
I have just brought an '07 Allez Sport which I pick up tomorrow. To help finance it, I plan to sell some of the components off my old bike on ebay. I have a pair of Mavic Aksium wheels which I could probably get a few quid for. Are they massively better than the standard wheels, and therefore should I pu them on my new bike? I would probably get next to nothing for the wheels that are on it so they would be sat in the garage.
Also, I have 2006 Shimano 105 STI's (9speed) and f+r mechs. The new one comes with 2007 Tiagra. The guy in the shop said there is very little difference between them, so is it worth putting the 105 stuff on the new bike which has been set up nicely etc.
My second question is what size inner chainring can I put on the new bike to help me get up hills as my current bike has a triple, the new is a double (not a compact). I am doing the circuit of cotswolds later this year and don't want to find myself dying on the first hill.
Cheers
Andy

If the 53/39's no good, why not get a Compact 50/34 chainset fitted? - I did it last month (for the same reason) - I'm not sure you can get much smaller than a 39 on a standard 130 double (if at all ? - someone else will know more about this though) - so to recap though, a 50/34 might be a suitable upgrade for your Allez, then just sell your new 53/39 on Ebay.0 -
I think Allez come with a 52/38 so if yours doesn't you could also drop down a little bit. But thats probably not much of a drop.
I use an Allez for training on so I'm in a slight different position (as yours is all new), I would put the Mavic's on it and sell the new wheels. I think 105 is really reliable kit, as the Tiagra wears out I've put 105 bits on it. Saying that the Tiagra shifters have lasted really well. I'd keep the deralliurs as spares and possibly sell the shifters as you'll get a bit of money for them.0
