clipless pedals

this question has probably been asked a million times, but here it goes again - I have ordered a focus super 08' it has yet to arrive, so I'm taking this time to time to buy a few new parts for it and have been contemplating clipless pedals, a friend of mine swears by them, I can see the benefits. (having power through the full 360 etc) the only thing is my riding position is very different from his and most other people I see riding, I spend 90% of the time time standing on my pedals, and on a long straight I tend to stand right on my tip toes and get in the highest gear possible, I was just wondering would I lose this ability if I wnet clipless, also what is a reasonably cheap but good pair of clipless pedals (£20-£40) and for that matter a good pair of shoes to go with them (~£30)

cheers

  • I 'went clipless' about 1 1/2 years ago and have never looked back. You set the shoe position up to the most comfortable and that's it. Another important benefit I have found is that if you are tackling technical downhills fast you don't need to think about keeping your feet on the pedals - they will always be there. I don't know what you mean about strange riding positions - mine hasn't changed.
  • by the position I meant, would have my foot effectively strapped to the pedal, would I still be able to stand right up on my tip toes, or does the pedal attatch to the middle of the foot and force you to keep your feet flat, sorry wasnt very clear about that in the O.P.
  • The clip is towards the front of your foot. You have about 4cms worth of adjustment space (spanning from the ball forwards).
