Road/Light offroad Tyres

Hi all,

I'm thinking of kitting my old hardtail out with some tyres suitable for doing some miles on the road and maybe during the summer a bit of light offroad if the urge takes me.

Any suggestions on a decent, fast rolling tyre on the tarmac but still offers a bit of rim protection and cornering grip in the dirt? Or do I have more chance of finding some unicorn poo?

Cheers

I've just put a Conti Travel Contact on the back, and I'm loving it so far. On tarmac it is soooo much better than knobblies, but the side knobs mean you can so light off-roading on it. It's perfect for cycling round Rutland Water a combination of tarmac and gravel tracks.

I would recommend the Conti's too. I see you have the new Commencal. I test rode one the other day and really liked it. How is yours going? Cheers.
  • Cheers guys, those look exactly what I'm looking for.

The Meta is awesome, had one for a whole weekend and fell in love with it, put my order in there and then lol. Shame I broke my collar bone the 3rd time I went out on it though! Thankfully no damage to the bike :) She's just an expensive ornament til I'm fixed up :(

How did you manage to break the collar bone? Hope it heels well and that you are back on two wheels soon!
  • Just a bit of sillyness involving a steep drop, some off camber and some tree roots! Think it was down to getting cocky with my new found suspension travel and pickinfg a rubbish line, something I would probably thought about alot more on my hardtail. These full suspension bikes make you lazy! Just got a couple of months off now :(

Hoping to get some miles in on the road to get some fitness back before I get cocky on my Commie again hence the need for some semi-slicks.

Halo twin rails, vary pressure according to riding conditions, really hard rolls fast, flat give really good grip, well relatively.
