Love My New Bike.

Last night i went to Evans and picked up my shiny new bike.

I opted for the 60 cm Ridgeback Flight T3.

My first observations was how light it was, i also noticed how low the cranks were compared to my old Hybrid.

This morning i took it for my first ride. I kept on the supplied tyres, Conti 25c Ultra Sport (no p****ure protection) and took it for a 18 mile blast to Hyde Park and back.

First thing i noticed was how twitchy it was, also the riding position was not as comfortable as my old bike. I think some tinkering with the saddle is needed, i have it as high as my old bike but with the lower cranks my thoughts are to lower it slightly or raise the stem.

On the flats i did not noticed too much difference, but on the hills it was much easier to climb.

I personally think that 27 gears is too many as on my old bike 21 gears i could stay on the centre cog on the front, where on my Flight i have to change quite often from middle to large. Also the supplied pedals are crap so had to take back to evans this morning to change over to my preferred pedals.

In all my average MPH has increased from 12 mph to 13.5 mph and i have now changed my tyres to specialized all condition armadillo elite 23c.

Now how do i explain all this expense to my bank manager

There's nothing wrong with Conti Ultra sports. No grip or deflation issues throughout the winter for me (at least 80mile a week through all weathers).

Hopefully your bank manager understands what happens when we get The Bug.
You just have to ride like you never have to breathe again.

I must admit they did run very well.

My back wheel did flip out once when riding through Hyde Park but that was due to all the sand etc, on the tyres.

However i would not make it a habit of using Tyres in Central London with NO pun***re protection.
