Enevitably, I will want to upgrade the brakes on my Ransom (Avid 5's). And Im torn between Avid Juicy Ultimates or Formula's The One.
I've heard a lot of good things about The One, and I guess that must be justified in the price!

My question is, if I could afford it, do The One's offer a superior package over the ultimates?

have a look at April MBUK, big brake review, The One came out top.
  • Yeh ive got it and read it, but the only other Avid they compared it too was the 3 (not including the code).

I did have an ultimate on my scale, and was very impressed with it. I just wondered how it compared to The One

They never compared it to the 3, they must never of put it in because they never felt it was worthy enough.

I would say go formula, i have the k18 and its just amazing! power feel and so easy to use its unbelievable. pads are easy to take out, bleeding is easy so what more dya want!

I've gone to ultimate's from 5's, they're eye-popping and I'm 17 and half stone. They came with my enduro and i did have my doubts at the time but no problems from me..

From what i've heard, the one is a better brake.

Chalk and cheese - Juicy Ultimate is a lightweight XC brake, One is a powerful FR/DH brake. I'd say Ones for a Ransom.

current fed back is that 203mm on the Ones is a bit too much braking.

Ive just upgraded from Juicy 3`s to The One and all i can say is chalk and cheese. I would never touch a Juicy again ever! This is a personal view as ive only ever had bad experiances with them.

As for rotor size i run 180 in the front and 160 on the rear and there is more than enough stopping power for the XC that i ride. (all the trail centres and a little down hill to)

I totally rate formula brakes especially The One and i know they are expensive but worth every penny ide say.
