Hi guys.

I am very soon going to order one of the above Inbred's to run with my exsisting 07 100mm Marzocchi MX PRO ETA forks, but i am a bit worried that as 100mm is the minimum travel recommended for the 456 the resulting steap head angle would make the steering way too sharp and a nightmare on the downhills. I have had several conflicting reports about what it would handle like, including one from Brant saying "it will be lovely" but i still can't decide. I ride mainly XC (i think you could even call it aggressive XC) and often come accross fairely steep downhill sections, so i need it to be good on the decents!
What do you guys reccon. I am happy to play it safe with the Non sliding dropout Inbred, but the 456 looks better and is a bit stronger. Help, i'm confused :?

Also if i order one today, what is the likelyhood of recieving it before the end of the month?

Cheers,

Andy.

Personally I'd get the standard, as it is for 100-120mm forks.

OK, i think i might go for the standard. Now for the next question. Slotted or non slotted drop outs? How much of a difference dose a couple of centimeters make to the handling, as i assume the wheelbase is adjustable? Dose the slotted drop out's make removing/refitting the wheel harder?

  • I recently bought a 456 and it's sweet! for the extra £10 i'd definately buy again, although I have run singlespeed in teh past, so teh slot-dropout was tempting!

I'm running the 456 on 120mm and it feels just right but for general riding 100mm would be fine.

I'd go for slotted if you're getting an inbred- one day you'll be tempted to run it singlespeed! maybe switch to ss in the winter

I don't think i will ever go ss, i just can't see the point. Ok in the winter there is less stuff to go wrong, but my gears have been completely caked in mud and still worked fine. Well apart from when a twig wraped itself around 6th 7th 8th and 9th, that was a bit of a pain.

I still can't make my mind up! But i suppose if the designer says it will be ok....... Is anyone else running a 456 with 100mm forks, or Pike u turns and can wind it down and let me know what it is like?

Don't be tight Andy....! Just buy the 456 and some decent forks! My 456 was sweet with my Pikes on it. On the commute I wound then right in but I wouldn't of wanted them to be much lower than the 120mm. As you know I now have the Foxs on it as the Pikes went on the Commy.

    Pikes....

Based on what you've said I'd go for the 456. I've got Psylo U-turns and although it feels 'right' at 120mm, i'm sure it feels just as right on the other guys Pike's at 140mm. Before getting teh 456, after doing a lot of research on what frame to get the one thing that was consistent across all reviews of any of the on-one frames was that the geometry is spot on- if it says it'll work well with 100mm it will! the rest is down to preference.

Did you tell them at on-one that you are considering both frames to see if one would definately be a better option with your fork choice?

I know people often talk about the difference a few mm of travel can have on the angles, but in personal real world experience this can be countered by a slighly higher rise on the stem / riser bars in terms of the overall feel anyway- as long as you're still within the recommended range which you will be.

456 has much more long term appeal in my mind- if you did upgade forks to somthing with adjustable or longer travel you've got more scope.

Thanks guys, I'd already decided to go for the 456. The MX PRO's are slightely longer than a lot of 100mm forks, cirtainly longer than the Suntour's that the Kraken came with, so it should be sweet. Maybe i can wrangle a Pike for a birthday present  Just hope they can deliver before before the end of the month!

    Cheers,

I ordered a 456 last night. Will run it with the MX PRO's to start with but i am looking around for cheap 120mm+ forks. If anyone is selling any dirt cheap, i'm your man :D

Dose anyone know if it is possible to increase the travel of 07 Marz MX PRO ETA's by swapping spacers around like you can on some RS forks?

Not sure you can with that fork - Nick will know!

    What budget?

RE geometry - yep, the bike will work at 100mm, but probably not as good as the standard one, which has geometry designed right on that figure. Most bikes have a sweetspot, and work 'ok' an inch either way, unless it was designed to be particularly slack/steep for that given travel. But as above, personal preference plays a large part.

Well, I've just built up my 456 with pike air u-turns etc. it is nicest around 110mm and you only need to go longer if you go downhill. If i were you i'd buy a standard inbred and save half a pound, stick a 4-5inch adjustable fork on it and you'll be fine for what you want to do. The 456 will probably be a bit much for your riding.

Well we will find out when it arrives. I now intend getting some longer forks anyway, but initially i will run it with the MX PRO's.
