Hi
This is my first post here so hello all
I am looking at a new bike after almost 15 years have passed sice my last purchase (rigid 1992 Marin Rocky Ridge)
What has prompted this is 2 things, firstly I am WAY too unfit and secondly I went on a stag w/e a couple of weeks ago to Barcelona which centered around a 20 mile MTB day ride - and although it hurt like hell (and I had to push a bit uphill  ) I really liked it.
.................So I am looking at bikes and thinking what on earth do I buy. I have set myself an absolute limit of £600 although I would be happy with an 06/07 model.
I have focused on Scott/Specialised as freinds who ride have pushed me in that direction
I did initially look at the Scale 60, but then the aspect 20 caught my eye, I have also looked at the Rockhopper range.
I will mainly be a road riding, recreational and single track user, I am 5' 7 and Stocky
so will the Scott scale be too 'hard' a ride.
I admit these days i'm a bike n00b so any advice would be gratefully rec'd

First off, i couldn't find any 2007 Rockhoppers's when i was looking at one, so it'll have to be a 2008 model. Not sure on availability of 2007 Scott's though.
I'd recommend you go to your nearest Specialized and Scott dealers and test ride, or at least sit on the bike for your size. Both may feel totally different.
On paper though, the Rockhopper Disc is worth the extra $50 for the Tora fork over the Dart 2 on the Aspect 20. Transmission is almost indentical on both. not sure how the Shimano M485 discs compare with the Avid Juicy 3's on the Rockhopper though.0 -
FYI, aspect is a new range, last year's bikes were reflex. i have a lower end one and really like it. good strong frame and not too heavy.0

That explains why I am struggling to find info on the range.......... Lol
Am I to assume the big difference between the scale and aspect frames is that the scale is lighter and stiffer?
The reflex (looks nice btw) is good on and off road?0 -
Scale's use 7005 grade Aluminium, while the Aspect use 6061 grade.
'07 and '08 Scale 60's only come with V brakes though0 -
I rode a Reflex 10 up at work up to the shop warehouse and I thought it was excellent in that short time, though this was mainly because it fitted me perfectly."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0
