Hey, Im thinking about changing my discs from cable to hydrolic. Do you think it is worth while? I ride to collage and back everyday and go proper mountian biking off road on the weekends. The cables discs arnt the worst but there still no the greatest. How much more do they cost to keep? Also which should i buy i have a budget of £120 what the best out there for that price range. What do you suggest?

First are your gear and brake levers one uiti or separate?

  • in answer to your first question - hell yeh its worth it! i was running Tektro I0's (aka worthless crap), but then got an avid juicy 5 (185mm rotor) up front, and a juicy 3 (160mm) for the back (for £115 from my LBS - bargain!) and my technique and confidence has gone through the roof. wouldnt go back to cables if you paid me!

Melrin also have Formula K-18s and Hayes Stroker Rydes for £130/pair. As Nick said, check if you have intergrated shifters and brake levers, if so then you will need to shell out on new shifters too.
