Leave him alone Pat - Astana have dealt with this exclusion with dignity. Give them back their money for their poxy PT license and let them go about their business.

"I know Contador and the people around him and I know that he is a clean and honest rider," added McQuaid

I don't think I'd make a statement like that about any rider, if I were Pat.

It's another bad move. By all means, he should say "here are the rules and my role means enforcing them and presiding over changes to them". Once he starts siding with riders, accusations of favourtitism and more will appear.

He's the head of the governing body, not a fan club chief.

In a perverse way I know hope AC gets fingered for doping - only to show the world what an arse McQuaid is.

I think I could. Sit everyone down, try to work out a way forward for the sport that has the majority of people behind it. Stop trying to collar all the TV money and realise that I'm a governing body and should step back a bit.

No doubt I'd make a balls up of it, but I don't think it even has to be someone from a cycling background.

He's now opened his mouth again and attacked the organisation that represents the pro teams, the AIGCP / International Association of Professional Cycling Groups, saying the UCI will suspend all contact with this organisation.

There were rumours that Discovery/Bruyneel had someone on the inside of the UCI tipping them off about testing - looks like we now know who that was. McQuaid should go now - any bit of integrity he might have had is now disappeared

Yay, lets bring another random Bruyneel rumour into it. If that's true, why did no one from T-Mobile or basically any other team ever test postive, considering they were all at it.

No one tested positive because to fail a test you're either an idiot or unlucky.

I'm struggling to find an appropriate insult for the would-be-alpha-male-but-failing-so-dismally-wannabe-controlfreak-but-really-a-prize-idiot...
Can the UCI not just sit down & talk to folk in a reasonable manner?
A wee bit back, I proposed UCI pundit with a competition to guess the next idiot thing they do, I think that "get an appropriate insult for Pat" might be a better option....

Well you're going to need a strong leader, who has experience of control an unruly mob of varying interests. A bullying nature might be appropriate. He should have a good knowledge of doping techniques and testing avoidance. He shouldn't be seen as ASO's puppet. The ability to attract blue chip sponsors is also beneficial.

So Lance Armstrong it is then.

    Choose from:
    • My aunt who's in her 90s and can't control the drool - or anything else I expect.
    • My cat, Mortimer.
    • The tin of tuna fish I ate for my tea tonight.
    • The same tuna fish as it will re-emerge into the world some time tomorrow.
    Shall I go on?

I haven't seen any reference to this elsewhere. Have you got more details and/or a link?

    Cheers!

Why not an ex rider of high calibre like Hinault,Lemond,or even Merckx. If the two sides don't pull together there will be no new sponsors coming into cycling.

The UCI deals with all branches of competitive cycling, not the just the circus that is the European professional road scene. I'd propose they split with the UCI and leave the blazers in Aigle to govern the rest of the sport.

I think two of those three would hardly be able to take the high moral ground in the fight against PEDs.

The blazers in Aigle want to become the governing body for skateboarding and inline skating - and wants to make them olympic sports at the expense of track cycling events. All they're interested in is money, for sure, this is why they wanted the pro tour for the expensive licences and to get TV rights. It would be better if they did concentrate on running the sport well and perhaps leave the organising to those who know.

    Hinault's an ASO employee.

Lemond had a 'what I'd do if I ran the UCI for a day' interview in ProCycling a couple of months ago, but emphasised it was a wistful 'what if' where he could come-out with off-the-wall ideas rather than anything serious.
I can't really picture him wanting to ringmaster this whole sorry show.

This is a complex organisation that needs leadership, management and reconstruction. Appointing a big champion from the past might arrive with some goodwill based on his past repuation but I'd much rather see an expert in there. Strip away a few yellow or rainbow jerseys and what do these candidates offer?

I think the former boss of the French Federation Daniel Baal, the man who introduced blood passports in France a decade ago, used to run a bank or insursance company. Someone with these skills is needed. But he has links to ASO, far from the ideal consensus candidate.

Sylvia Schenk anyone? Read today's http://cyclingfansanonymous.blogspot.com/ and you can see she exposed suspect practices from Verbruggen.
