Is the 2.35 the width of the tyre?

Morning folks,

Just a quick question really....

I'm getting my Maxxis high rollers today. They are 2.35's which I assume is the width....?

However, I'm not that sure if it is the width and if so what is the difference between them and other widths and will they fit?

I know it sounds a bit of a newby question but I've never had to look in to the world of tyres that much before.

Appreciate your reply's

I could be wrong but I believe it actually refers to the depth of the tyre, but as the tyre, once inflated, becomes a rounded shape, it pretty much matches the width as well.

It is the Width, and 2.35 is plenty for trail riding,

sometimes you might want even narrower, but i personaly go below 2.1

Mostly you can go as wide as you like only restricted by frame clearence

Right, thanks. It should be fine fitting on to my rims though shouldn't it? the tyres that are on there are currently 2.0's

I think BeardedDave is right, think in terms of the radius of the wheel, 13" from hub to rim and then another 2.35" from rim to tread. In most cases a deeper tyre also equates to a fatter tyre but not always, my 2.1 Trailraker is definitely thinner (so it can cut through the mud better) than the spesh resolution pro 2.1 I have on the front. The width of the tyre and bead position is controlled by the wya the plys are laid inside the tyre.

The tyre should fit your rims, there can be issues if you have particularly narrow rims (not all rims are a standard width).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Yeh fitting to the rims should be fine, i used to run 2.35's on my old Cannondale CAAD2 and that virtually no clearance.

Got these babies attached to the bike and went out on the weekend. They were super sticky compared to my fast traks. And although it was a little more effort to get up hill they still felt a hell of a lot safer going down some of the rocky descents, mud paths and general woodland terrain I'm so fond of ripping through.
