Average commute time is 40 mins over 12(ish) miles. Thats through Maidenhead, through Slough and then Langley to get to college. Quickest ever was 30 mins, longest was just over an hour - last thursday into a huge headwind!
Just fitted a computer so we'll see just how far and fast I'm going! Once I've fiddled with the gears so I can actually get 8th on the cassette should be a little quicker!
This is on an MTB with cheapo slick ish jobs from Hellfrauds. Its no lightweight either!
One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other.0 -
I average between 16.5 & 19.5mph over a 18.5m commute. It has 23 junctions, 2 rounder bouts, 4 sets of traffic lights, 2 stretches of road with no lighting which I have to ride steady on and 2 climbs.0

I am not sure of my speed in total however it takes me around 45/50 mins to do 12 miles again depends on hold ups have one busy road to cross.
I guess I am happy with that at the moment on quite a heavy tourer and heavy rider !0 -
My average speed was 15 ish - but then my computer broke down... Towards the end it was reporting top speeds of 80mph plus! Can I count those? 8)0

I did my commute with a computer fitted for the first time this morning and my to work average speed was 17mph (that was also the first commute on the CX bike). I might be slightly faster on the road bike but it won't have been by much. Usually the wind is helping on my "to" leg (which is also mostly downhill or flat as my house is 100m higher than my office) however there wasn't much wind this morning.0

My 13 miles took 65 minutes on Friday night! Not bad considering that includes a puncture !!!
BTW I hit 40 mph this morning on my favourite hill0 -
11mph average for the last 1600miles on the trip computer.
tourer, panniers, fat tyres and a bloody big hill to go up every morning....I just plod alongit looks a bit steep to me.....0 -
had a following wind this morning, managed 20 mph over 15 miles (the last 3 of which are city riding) reckon I spent at least 3 minutes stationary in that (don't have a cycle computer just know how long the ride took beginning to end)
Oh and that was on my SS too.
Starting to show some form for this years Ironman, yay."Impressive break"

South of the river I was flying in, the traffic and lights were kind and I averaged just over 20mph for the 9.5 miles... north of the river I got fleeced at every opportunity and my average dropped like a stone to 17.6 for 13.5 miles so just under 45 mins... booo still a respectable time all in allPurveyor of sonic doom

I was brought up in Langley, my mum worked for a while at the college. Left there in 1976 with happy memories.
Do you go all the way on the A4?Old hippies don't die, they just lie low until the laughter stops and their time comes round again.

NW London -> City. I average 15-17mph, which is a cycling-time journey of 31-33 mins. In reality, what with traffic lights and queues, it takes closer to 35-40. But that's in the early morning, when traffic's relatively light. And it's overall downhill. On the way back, the journey's closer to an hour at an average speed of 11-13mph due to much heavier traffic and having to get over Hampstead Heath.
Managed to knock a couple of minutes off the trip just recently by changing my footwear. Bought some cycling shoes from Lidl for £15 and the difference from trainers is marked. Not using specialist pedals, just regular toe-clips, but still getting much faster and less puffed.---
If I\'m not making any sense, it\'s because I\'m incoherent.0 -
My out & back average has been about 12mph this week so far. It's probably a little unusual in that my average speed on the way in to work is nearly double that of the way home.0

Time for an update then. Got my fastest commute home on Tuesday past. 19.8mph over 13.9 miles. So annoyed that I didn't hit the 20mph average I have longed for so long though did manage a 10 mile stretch in the middle which averaged 21.2mph so not bad for a flatbar. Bit of a tailwind but not anything too strong so I did get blown home a bit but you take the good with the bad don't you? As I said in my original mainly all down to my change of tyres from the Spesh Armadillos and the Michelin Pro2 Race.0
