My brother has just purchased a wheel which came with a brand new Continental Vapor tyre which he wont be using as he has new Nobby Nics.

I was wondering could I put the Vapor on my rear wheel and leave the 2.3 Conti Gravity on the front or would odd tyre sizes make the bike handle differently??

I thought it would be OK,as I seem to remember doing something similar back in the old days when I had my rigid Kona Lava Dome with Project 2's !! I think the wide tyre for the front was called Ground control or something.........ah the good old days !!

yeh man definately do that n let the rear slide out :P better than the front goin anywsy!
  • Yea if you have a thicker tyre on the front it usually means the rear will lose grip first which as above has mentioned, which is always better than the front washing out.

Fitted the 2.1 rear last night and went for a quick blast, the rolling resistance is definately less and the bike feels a bit quicker off the mark, plus ive dropped 150g in weight with the skinnier tyre. Will try it on the proper trails this weekend.
The Conti website says 50PSI min for both of these tyres but im running them at 40 and they seem OK,50 seems a bit high to me ?
  • i run at about 35, and also run 2.3 front and 2.1 rear- glad you have seen the light!!
also, 50 isnt that high, just depends on the surfaces your cycling on.

I normally use 40 and I'm a heavy rider (14 stone). 50 sounds too high if you ask me unless you are monstorously heavy. I think most people I know would consider 40 quite high but I prefer mine to be a bit on the high side to avoid pinch flats.

Ran the tyres at 40PSI at a very soggy Cwmcarn yesterday, felt OK and definately rolls better with the 2.1 rear but I did get a flat, luckily I had a spare tube.Other than that I'm pleased with the 2.3/2.1 setup !
