Been mulling over this for a while and I'm in a quandry as to what jacket to buy!

Currently I ride wearing a baselayer, fleece and a fleece gilet, can get a bit cold in the wind or a bit hot after a long strenuous ride. If it's raining, I tend to stick an old lightweight rain jacket on top.

I've been looking on ebay at a few jackets, mainly Endura or Altura, but been outbid every time.

What's your opinion on the Altura Nevis against the Altura Velocity?

Would an Endura convert be a good purchase? I've seen one at half price but it has a very small tear in the shoulder.

Any advice would be most welcome.

I've got an Altura Nevis, which cost me thirty quid, but can't remember where from, it's not let me down yet, is really waterproof and seems to be quite breathable, my only fault is that when it's packed down into its pouch it is still pretty bulky.
Am now looking for a decent quality (but cheap) small packaway rain jacket.

    Altura Nevis is near faultless.

Breathes well, keeps the rain out, lasts well.

On my second only because I stacked badly and ripped the arm off my old one.

Wife has the high vis version - even better but pricier.
Two Stumpjumpers, a Rockhopper Disk and an old British Eagle.

All the Altura jackets have 25% off at Wiggles so the Nevis is £38

Thanks for the replies, Altura Nevis seems the way to go.

Anyone got any experiences with the Altura Velocity or Endura Convert?
  • No BUT I posted this same question a while ago BUT for the Altura Crosslite

I ended up buying one and I am not disappointed, Its packs down really well, waterproof breathable, and because it is windproof keeps you really warm. also because its got no lining you can add/ remove layers when you get hot/cold and therefore wear it when it is raining on physical riding that you build up body heat and need to remove layers to cool down. It is more expensive BUT I personally think worth the extra cost!

Not meaning to upset anybody who owns a Nevis, but my pal has a Nevis and says that if anything, it can get a little too warm in all but the coldest weather and usually opt's for his velocity jacket which is also lightweight like the Crosslite.

    Hope this helps

I'll 2nd the crosslite - quality kit for the money.
  • I got an altura nevis for christmas off my folks and what a great jacket it is, it's light as hell, plenty of storage too, the breathability could be a little better, I've had to take it off a few times during a ride because I was so hot, but then again those times I was wearing a thermal fleece base layer also

I've got two Endura Converts. Bought one in black, liked it so much I bought one in hi-viz which certainly lives up to it's name - it's very bright.

The whole jacket does pack into the back pocket, despite what Wiggle etc. say. There's even two velcro loop things that then allow you to attach the packed jacket to your frame. Great if you're on a long ride and need to start out wearing more than you want to later.

Haven't tried it as a gillet yet, no need. But have enjoyed the fact that you can unzip the arms a bit and get lots of air to the sweaty bits ;)

Do a search on this forum for Endura Convert and you should find my other post on the subject.
