I have been using seriously purple grease which has been okay but my jockey wheels (yes, I grese my jockeywheels) seemed scratchey today so I replaced with lithium weldtite stuff and they're running better than ever.

put on myheadset too which is also kicking ass.

am thinking about putting on my hubs when they next need servicing.

have never really thought of using weldtite for bearings,I jsut use it when putting BBs etc onto frame.

What do you use for greasing bearings? Always use the same greases?

I use some white molycoat stuff thats used on the rack and pinions by the engineers when they come to service my laser in work. Seems to work ok

i use pedros syn grease on bearings, hopefully it's good stuff and so far everythings still turning smoothly. well not all bearings i squeezed in some finish line teflon into my headset cartridge bearings and they've been like butter for over 1000 miles.
  • Lithium based grease cakes up and goes a horrible grey colour IME.
Better to use a teflon based..

Halfords teflon stuff is good for everything.

Lithium greases should only be used on bearings and moving parts, and even then it might bugger certain seals up.

Probably give someone a heart attack saying this, but last service i did on my front hub when it started grinding was generic multipurpose grease that mentioned bearings on the side of the tub. runs smooth as anything now. also used in pedal bearings as i dont have the spare cash to replace anything at the moment

Its usually fine! Bikes arent like cars that run at high temps - most basic stuff works ok.
