Hi, I've recently treated myself to some DMR V8s and thought I might get myself some new shoes to go with them instead of my standard hiking trainers, can anyone recommend some decent shoes that work well with flat pedals?

My girlfriend has some 5-10 impacts which are on sale on Chain Reaction, but I don't want to be wearing the same ones as her all the time, (we've already bought matching jackets unbeknown to one another)

They are worth it, much grippier and give more support than any other skate shoe.

urgh how did i not see that. thanks. and i haven't heard as many good reviews on other shoes as i have on 5.10s
  • most skateboarding shoes work well, i have V8's and use skateshoes and my feet have never slipped off once. id recommend some Etnies Cinch, or some Vans Rowley's XL3's.

I wear Shimano shoes like these but without cleats with DMR V8s

Soles are semi stiff for pedalling efficiency but they manage not to look too stupid.

Of course with flats, you can wear any shoes - if I'm running/cycling, I wear my running shoes.

You can get the Marzocchi Bomber version of the FiveTen shoes, I think they look proper pimp.

Oh yeah got some myself as well, and they're proper grippy, I know they're white but the mud kinda falls/brushes off them with ease for some reason :D

    1. Visit your local branch of Sports Direct and buy a pair of Airwalk skate shoes for £12 (or less).

    2. Bung them in the post to Feet First (www.feetfirst.resoles.co.uk) and get the soles redone with Stealth Dotty rubber (same as on the 5:10s) for £30.

    3. Bingo! Bargain MTB shoes - same sole as used by Sam Hill et al.

Airwalk shoes are cheap enough to throw away once you've wrecked them, they've got really stiff soles (for a skate shoe, which makes them good for pedalling) and there's loads of snazzy patterns. Where d'ya wanna be?

I don't know anything about skate/BMX shoes - so I've just worn a pair of Rossignol approach/hiking shoes with stiff Vibram soles since I started riding with flats.

They work really well. Stiff soles, Gore Tex membrane and loads of little ridges on the sole to hold onto the pins.

Loads of brands make similar shoes, and they're always going for under £30 in TK Maxx - where I got mine.

I was just about to ask this question too, so thanks for the advice here. Can anyone point me to some shoes for the casual MTBer on a budget. I use DMR V12 pedals and would like some that are decent on the pedal and also whilst walking.
Anyone know if any of these are any good ?
